The line for this game is Virginia Tech by 24 points.

Virginia Tech is off to its best start in seven years, and coach Buzz Williams thinks he knows why. The Hokies seek a 12th straight home victory Tuesday when Charleston Southern visits Cassel Coliseum.

The Buccaneers have dropped four of five, including 84-64 at Georgia on Saturday. Christian Keeling (14.3 points, 6.1 rebounds), a 6-3 freshman guard, led the way with 19 points, six rebounds and two blocks, while junior guard Cortez Mitchell (10 points per game) added 15 points, but the club got outrebounded 41-23 and shot just 6-of-21 beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Amel Potter, who entered the Georgia game with three consecutive 20-point outings but was held to nine against the Bulldogs, is the team’s leading scorer at 14.9 points per game and leads the team in minutes played at 28.8 per game.

Khadim Sy’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Clarke (9.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists) the final assist he needed to complete the feat. Forward Zach LeDay leads the team in scoring (17 points per game) and is tied with Clarke for the lead in rebounds (7.4), while Hill (14.1 points, 47 percent beyond the arc) has surpassed 20 points the past two games and leads the team with 29 3-pointers.

Virginia Tech concludes its non-conference schedule on Dec. 28 at home against Maryland-Baltimore County before hosting Duke three days later in the ACC opener.

Prior to his consecutive 20-point outings (42 points, 13-of-22 shooting, 7-of-12 on 3-pointers), Hill had scored just 23 points (7-of-22 from the field) in his previous three games.

Clarke is one of 13 players to record a triple-double this season and the second player from the ACC. Miami (Fla.)’s Bruce Brown had 11 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists against South Carolina State on Dec.
