The New Jersey Devils were one of the best stories in the NHL through the first month of the season, but are now struggling to stay above the point-per-game mark. The Devils, who recorded at least a point in 12 of the season’s first 15 contests, showed signs of snapping out of their funk last time out and look to end a six-game slide (0-5-1) when they host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.

Nashville hopes forward Filip Forsberg’s second goal in four games Monday jump-starts his season, which includes only four tallies overall after scoring 59 combined over the previous two seasons. Forsberg joined a group of six players between 18 and 21 points, led by center Ryan Johansen (six goals, 15 assists), while James Neal tops the team with 12 tallies. Goalie Pekka Rinne, who was the NHL’s No. 1 star in November, had a .848 save percentage in December before turning aside 31 of 32 shots Monday.

New Jersey gave up 24 goals during its losing streak, but its offense is struggling just as much while managing only eight goals in that span and going 1-for-15 on the power play in the last five. Taylor Hall has 20 points – three behind team leader Travis Zajac – but was been kept off the scoresheet in four consecutive games and owns a minus-4 rating during that stretch. Kyle Palmieri, who posted a career-high 30 goals in 2015-16, is warming up with seven points (six assists) in the last nine contests.

The Devils rallied with three third-period goals and beat the Predators 5-4 in overtime on Dec. 3, improving to 5-2-1 in the last eight meetings.
