Dieumerci Mbokani is suspended for three matches after being shown a straight red card in the League Cup win over Newcastle on Tuesday. With Will Keane and Abel Hernandez out injured, it leaves them short of options up front. Adama Diomande will lead the line as a result. Ryan Mason was foured off during their 1-1 draw with West Brom last weekend because of illness and missed out in the penalty shootout win over Newcastle completely. He remains a doubt for Monday’s clash with Middlesbrough.

Aitor Karanka seems happy to persist with Fabio at left-back while George Friend is out with a knee injury. No changes are expected from the team that held Leicester to a 2-2 draw last time out.

Middlesbrough remain a relatively difficult team to beat but are struggling to win games themselves. They have only been beaten by more than a one-goal margin in one league game this season, but conceringly, have won just one of their last 11 matches. As a result, they are only one point above Monday’s opponents Hull, who occupy the final relegation place.

Hull made it through to the semi finals of the League Cup for the first time in their history in midweek but were taken all the way to penalties by Newcastle and there might be some tired legs in the team towards the second half of this match on Monday night. They have lost seven of their last nine in the league and need to arrest that slump sharpish if they are to have any chance of beating the drop.

Meetings between these two sides at the Riverside Stadium are usually decided by who scores first. In fact, only one team has got on the scoresheet in each of the last four matches played in Middlesbrough and seeing as these two teams are among the lowest scores in the Premier League this season, expect a low scoring match, which could be decided by one goal.
