• As has been the case all season, Nikola Kalinic will return to the starting XI after Khouma Babacar started in the Europa League. Paulo Sousa has a clean bill of health for the trip to Milan and his best XI is expected, even though some may be struggling with fatigue.

• Stefano Pioli is expected to stick with most of the team that drew 2-2 in the derby against city rivals AC Milan last weekend. The only enforced change is that Gary Medel, who is out until 2017, will be replaced by Jeison Murillo. João Mario looks set to play in support of Mauro Icardi, which means there will be no place for Ever Banega.

• Inter have already been eliminated from the Europa League despite the fact there is still one game to play. Their failings in Europe cannot be pinned on new manager Stefano Pioli, but the manner in which they threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Hapoel Beer Sheva was humilating.

• Fiorentina are also not guarenteed a place in the next stage of the Europa League, but they are top of their group and in good form in both Serie A and in Europe. They slipped to a shock 3-2 defeat at home to PAOK on Thursday, but won 4-0 in the league last time out.

• This game will be a clash between two coaches with a contrasting styles of play. Paulo Sousa will look to dominate the ball, whereas Stefano Pioli will be looking to use the flanks to get at the Viola, much in the same way they did against Milan.
