Women’s Australian Open: #22 Brady v. Pegula

Who will WIN this matchup?

#22 Jennifer Brady (USA)

Jessica Pegula (USA)

Current odds:

Jennifer Brady: (-225)

Jessica Pegula: (+175)

2020 US Open semifinalist Jennifer Brady has entered a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the second time after defeating Donna Vekic, 6-1, 7-5. The round-of-16 match was skewed in her favor from the very beginning when the Croatian opponent entered the court with a heavily taped knee. Brady has conceded just 17 games en route to the last-eight — fewer than anyone else — and is one of the three players who have not lost a set this fortnight. The 22nd seed has recorded a breadstick set (6-1) against each of her four opponents, including Bolsova, Brengle and Juvan.

Jessica Pegula was already enjoying her best Grand Slam result when she stunned world no. 5 Elina Svitolina, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, to extend her Cinderella run and secure her maiden top 10 scalp. She outstruck the Ukrainian in both winners (31 to 19) and unforced errors (40 to 25). Until a few months ago, Pegula held just one career Grand Slam main draw victory, against Alison Van Uytvanck in 2015. The 2019 Washington, D.C, champion ended this drought with a dash to the third round of the US Open in August, beating Bouzkova and Flipkens in three-setters.
