• This is a repeat of the Euro 2020 final. Since Italy defeated England on penalties, they have failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup later this year.

• England have certainly fared better of the two sides since their last encounter but have wobbled during this current break with defeat to Hungary and a draw against Germany.

• Italy lost Finalissima to Argentina at the start of the break but have drawn with Germany and beaten Hungary since then in the UEFA Nations League. Their squad is currently well short of its normal quality.
