• Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reportedly given three matches to save his job at Manchester United after the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool and he has beaten Tottenham and got fortunate to draw with Atalanta. The back three worked terrifically against a poor Tottenham side but was found wanting against Atalanta. With Raphael Varane ruled out and Victor Lindelof a major doubt, that defence looks even more suspect.

• Manchester City ran out 4-1 winners over Club Bruges on Wednesday night but Pep Guardiola fielded a surprisingly strong team. Given the sharp turnaround between matches it will be interesting to see how they get on here even though both matches are in Manchester.

• Only Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp have beaten Pep Guardiola-managed teams more times than Solskjaer but it’s hard to see United coming away with a positive result. They look extremely vulnerable whenever they come up against a half-decent coached side.
