First-place Calgary has a hot goaltender on its hands in Mike Smith, who will try to make it four straight wins when the Flames visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Smith has allowed four goals in his last three starts with a .940 save percentage during that span, and has yielded three or fewer goals in six straight contests in helping the Flames lead Anaheim by one point in the Pacific Division.

• Columbus trails first-place Washington by one point in the Metropolitan Division after a 3-2 loss at the New York Islanders on Saturday and is 8-3-1 in its last 12 games. Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella wasn’t feeling too nostalgic after Saturday’s game – the first at Nassau Coliseum since 2015, telling reporters: “I don’t (care) about the home team and how they feel. I’m a little concerned about the mistakes we made.” Columbus has won three straight meetings, including a two-game season series sweep in 2017-18 when Pierre-Luc Dubois scored three goals and Sergei Bobrovsky allowed one goal on 60 shots.

• Sean Monahan (29 points) scored his team-leading 15th goal Sunday and has 10 points (six goals) in his last eight games while Johnny Gaudreau (team-high 31 points) has 12 points (four goals) during that span. Calgary is eighth in scoring at 3.47 goals per game thanks to a deep attack that includes Matthew Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm (12 goals apiece). The Flames are receiving strong work at the blueline led by TJ Brodie (team-best plus-18) and captain Mark Giordano (24 points, plus-14), who has thrown his hat into a wide-open Norris Trophy race.

• Cam Atkinson (team-high 16 goals) extended his point streak to 10 games Sunday with his 300th career assist, giving him 10 goals and six assists during the run. Atkinson and Artemi Panarin share the club lead with 27 points with the latter recording nine in his last eight contests. Defenseman Ryan Murray (team-best plus-12) left Sunday’s game in the third period with an undisclosed injury while Anthony Duclair (eight goals) has missed the last two contests (undisclosed).

• Calgary has scored a power-play goal in four straight games, going 5-for-19 during that span, while Columbus has killed 13-of-14 penalties over its last seven contests.

• Dubois (13 goals, 25 points) has three goals and three assists in his last three games.

•  The road team has won 13 of the last 16 meetings.
