The Arizona Coyotes will look to snap their 10-game season-opening winless streak when they visit the Anaheim Ducks Friday night. The Coyotes have earned just one point thus far and their winless streak is the longest in the NHL since the Coyotes themselves started the 2017-18 season 0-10-1. Arizona has come close of late. In their last three losses the Coyotes entered the third period with the game tied.

Arizona was locked in a scoreless duel with the host Philadelphia Flyers after two periods Tuesday, but it was Flyers who dominated the third period in a 3-0 win.

The Coyotes are giving up an NHL-high 4.10 goals per game and scoring an NHL-low 1.30 per game. Their power play ranks 31st in the league at 8.0 percent and their penalty kill was tied for last at 62.5 percent heading into play Thursday.

Arizona, which claimed goalie Scott Wedgewood off waivers from the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, completes a six-game road swing Friday. Wedgewood was in goal for the Coyotes when they ended their 2017 run of futility.

Forward Troy Terry has been leading the charge for the Ducks, scoring at least one point in nine straight games (seven goals, five assists), which is the longest scoring streak in the NHL this season. Terry scored twice in the Ducks’ 4-0 win against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. The Ducks have earned at least a point in four straight games (2-0-2).

Gibson made 28 saves against the Devils for his 23rd career shutout. In eight games he has a 2.57 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.

Another reason for Anaheim’s surge has been their special teams. The Ducks’ power play is converting 26.3 percent of its chances and has scored 10 goals after amassing an NHL-worst 11 power-play goals all last season. Meanwhile, the Ducks are killing off 83.8 percent of the power plays against them.
