• Mike Watkins, who was away from the team while dealing with legal and mental health issues, made his season debut against the Hokies and finished with seven rebounds in 21 minutes while altering the team’s makeup in the paint. “Mike is a great player,” fellow junior Lamar Stevens told reporters. “He can impact the game in so many ways, either in scoring or on defense. Having him back is a great relief for us.” Watkins averaged 12.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks as a sophomore, including a 17-point, 17-rebound, two-block effort at Maryland on Jan. 2.

• The Terrapins were able to force only two turnovers against the Cavaliers while coughing it up 14 times of their own. Junior guard Anthony Cowan Jr. led four double-digit scorers with 15 points and he leads the team with an average of 16.6, just a shade better than sophomore forward Bruno Fernando (15.9). Freshman guard Aaron Wiggins has scored at least 12 points in four of his last six games and is 13-for-27 from 3-point range over the past five contests.
