@ Washington Huskies (8-4)
Current odds:
Cal State Fullerton Titans: (+650)
Washington Huskies: (-1000)
• The line for this game is Washington by 12.5 points.
• A few hours after the Washington football team wraps up its season with a Rose Bowl showdown against Ohio State, the Huskies basketball team will play its final non-conference tuneup against visiting Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday. It will be the first game in 11 days for Mike Hopkins’ squad, which went into the holiday break following a very uneven performance in a 57-41 victory over Sacramento State. Washington overcame a dreadful first-half offensive performance in the win over the Hornets, falling behind 22-19 after 20 minutes while shooting 0-for-11 from from 3-point range and 33 percent from the field. But the Huskies turned things around after halftime with some stifling defense, holding Sacramento State to just 19 points on 3-of-22 shooting (13.6 percent) and finished the game with a 24-10 edge in points off turnovers.
• Cal State Fullerton comes to Seattle off a 79-64 victory over visiting Portland on Saturday night which snapped a four-game losing streak for the Titans.
• The Titans return four starters from a team that won the Big West Tournament and lost to Purdue first round of the NCAA Tournament, including the talented backcourt duo of Kyle Allman Jr. and Khalil Ahmad. Allman Jr. leads the team in scoring (18.8) and had 26 points, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range, in the win over Portland. Ahmad is the only other player averaging in double figures scoring (17.5) while junior forward Jackson Rowe leads the team in rebounds (6.9) and adds 9.7 points per game.
• Sophomore guard Jaylen Nowell leads the team in scoring (16.8) while also shooting 40.5 percent from 3-point range and has been held below 14 points in just three games this season. Senior forward Noah Dickerson, a returning first team all-Pac-12 selection, is second in scoring (15.3) and also leads the team in rebounding (6.7). Lanky 6-5 senior guard Matisse Thybulle, the reigning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, is averaging 8.8 points and helped spur the second half comeback against Sacramento State with seven steals.
• Sacramento State’s 41 points were the fewest allowed by the Huskies since they held Grambling to 38 on Dec. 17, 2014.
• Thybulle is Washington’s career steals leader with 243 and has had at least one theft in 58 consecutive games.
• Allman Jr. has scored in double figures in all 12 games he’s played in this season and had 38 points in a 80-71 loss at Hofstra on Nov. 21.
