Who will WIN this matchup?
Washington Wizards (13-21)
@ Detroit Pistons (15-16)
Current odds:
Washington Wizards: (+175)
Detroit Pistons: (-210)
• The line for this game is Detroit by 5 points.
• The Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards are both having some trouble generating positive momentum and are coming off losses heading into a matchup at Detroit on Wednesday. The Pistons looked like Eastern Conference contenders before dropping nine of their last 11 games, including a 98-95 home setback to the lowly Atlanta Hawks on Sunday. Detroit coach Dwane Casey lamented the team’s “give a crap” level after 98-86 loss at Charlotte on Friday and was disappointed again on Sunday when it fell into a deep hole and had a fourth-quarter comeback fall short against the Hawks.
• The Wizards can be excused for not bringing enough energy in a 105-89 loss at Indiana on Sunday, which came less than 24 hours after a 149-146 triple-overtime win over the Phoenix Suns.
• Bradley Beal sparked the three-overtime win with his first career triple-double, recording 40 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds against the Suns, but was not quite as sharp the next day. Beal slumped to seven points on 2-of-11 shooting in the loss at Indiana and logged 24 minutes after playing 54 the previous night. “We’re not going to play the naive game,” Beal told reporters. “Tired, but it’s the schedule. You have to wake up and be ready to go and play. It’s an early game (Sunday). It’s kind of a little messed up, but there’s no excuse … you’ve got to keep playing and do whatever it takes to win, and we didn’t do that.”
• Star forward Blake Griffin struggled through one of his worst games with 15 points on 4-of-14 shooting Sunday, including 1-of-7 from 3-point range, while committing a team-high five turnovers. “We’ve just got to be more focused,” Griffin told reporters. “We’ve got to be better. I’ve got to be better. I’ve got to hit shots when my team depends on it.” Frontcourt mate Andre Drummond recorded a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds on Sunday but was not on the court down the stretch as Casey went with backup Zaza Pachulia with the team making a run.
• Pistons SG Luke Kennard is 3-of-20 from the floor over the last four games.
• Wizards PG John Wall, who sat out Saturday due to an illness, was limited to seven points on 1-of-7 shooting while committing seven turnovers on Sunday.
• Washington took three of the four meetings last season with Beal averaging 19 points.
