The Arizona Coyotes look to build off an inspiring comeback victory when they complete a four-game road trip Sunday afternoon against the struggling Carolina Hurricanes. The Coyotes trailed by three goals before rallying for a 4-3 overtime victory over the New York Rangers on Friday to end a four-game losing streak and improve to 8-7-1 on the road overall.  Ekman-Larsson had an assist in the 4-3 overtime victory over Carolina on Nov. 2 as the Hurricanes were going through the first of two rough stretches that have torn apart a promising 4-0-1 start to the season.

• Carolina has dropped six of the last seven games (1-4-2) after coughing up a three-goal lead in the second period and settling for a 6-5 shootout loss against Washington on Friday. “It hurts,” Hurricanes leading scorer Sebastian Aho told reporters. “It’s one of the best teams in the world and we were right there. To be 4-1 up and then lose it. … again, again, again, again, we have to learn our lesson and just keep working.”

• Center Derek Stepan got revenge on his former team by scoring the winning goal and assisting on another tally Friday to push his total to 15 points – third on the team. Forward Clayton Keller leads the way for Arizona with 23 points, including nine in the last eight contests, and Ekman-Larsson is next with 17 after scoring for the first time in 17 games Friday. Center Nick Schmaltz continues to make a big impact since being acquired in a trade, recording four goals and five assists in nine games with the club after managing 11 points in 23 outings with Chicago.

• Aho is on a strong run again with four goals to go along with three assists in the last four games to lead the team with 33 points and coach Rod Brind’Amour told reporters: (Aho’s) been good lately, driving the ship for sure.” Carolina must show its depth with center Jordan Staal (concussion) out indefinitely and left wing Micheal Ferland, who shares the team lead with 11 goals, questionable with an upper-body injury. Teuvo Teravainen has six of his 24 points in the last four games while fellow forward Justin Williams boasts three goals in four contests.

• Carolina’s 18-year-old rookie F Andrei Svechnikov is tied for third on the team with eight goals and has four points in his last four games.

• Arizona F Christian Fischer has three goals in seven games during December after going scoreless in November.

• The Coyotes lead the NHL in penalty killing at 88.2 percent, allowing 11 power-play goals while scoring 11 short-handed — both league bests.
