Who will WIN this matchup?
Philadelphia 76ers (17-8)
@ Toronto Raptors (20-5)
Current odds:
Philadelphia 76ers: (+240)
Toronto Raptors: (-280)
• The line for this game is Raptors by 7 points.
• The Toronto Raptors were due for a letdown, and not letting it linger will be the key. The Raptors, who had an eight-game winning streak come to an end with a 106-103 home loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday, will take on another stiff challenge when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. Toronto owns the best record in the NBA and forced 20 turnovers against the Nuggets but could not defend without fouling down the stretch as Denver center Nikola Jokic hit three free throws in the final seven seconds to provide the margin.
• The 76ers rolled through a perfect three-game homestand, capped by a 103-95 win over Memphis on Sunday, but are 4-7 on the road as they get set for a tough two-game trip that includes a visit to Detroit on Friday.
• The Philadelphia backcourt led the way in Sunday’s win, with point guard Ben Simmons scoring 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting while adding 12 rebounds and six assists. “His defensive mindfulness, his commitment to playing defense, his willingness to slide over to the four (spot) and let T.J. (McConnell) have the ball and make passes out of the elbow and do stuff,” Brown told reporters of Simmons. “Like all of those things stood out. He’s moving in a really clear, positive direction.” Simmons is shooting 67.3 percent from the field over the last five games while averaging 16.2 points and 8.4 assists
• Toronto went 11-of-41 from the 3-point line against the Nuggets but veteran shooting guard Danny Green felt it was in the effort plays that the team fell short. “You know some games you get some good bounces and some not so good bounces, some good calls and some not so good calls, some games you’re going to foul a lot and some not,” Green told reporters. “Regardless of that you have to play basketball and find ways to make winning plays. That comes with rebounding, making 50-50 plays and playing some good defense when shots are not falling.” Green went 3-of-9 from the floor in the loss but collected two steals without committing a turnover.
• Raptors PGs Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet combined to go 2-of-14 from the floor on Monday.
• 76ers PF Wilson Chandler (quad) sat out Sunday and is day-day.
• Toronto took the first meeting 129-112 on Oct. 30 behind 31 points from SF Kawhi Leonard.
