• Javi Martínez is fully fit again and challenges Jérôme Boateng and Mats Hummels for their spots at center-back for Bayern. Arturo Vidal and Joshua Kimmich compete for a spot in central midifeld. Arjen Robben and Douglas Costa are back in training and ready to come in on the flanks.

• Manager Martin Schmidt could switch to a back-five against Bayern, with centre-back Stafan Bell returning from suspension. Daniel Brosinski is back from a one-match ban as well and provides an option for both wing-back positions. Up front, Yunus Malli could start as a lone striker in this system, with Jhon Córdoba possibly coming on from the bench in the second half.

• Mainz have won their last three home games and will want to put in another strong performance to make up for their poor away form in recent weeks.
