Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi will return to the starting XI after missing their 0-0 draw against Malaga at the weekend through suspension and illness, respectively. Jeremy Mathieu returns from suspension but is injured and hasn’t travelled with the squad, as is the case for Samuel Umtiti and Andres Iniesta. Rafinha and Andre Gomes are vying for a starting berth in the midfield three alongside Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets.

Kris Commons is back in training having been out injured for six months. He is well short of match fitness and won’t feature here. Kieran Tierney has still not recovered from his ankle injury that has kept him sidelined for Celtic’s last five matches in all competitions.

Since being thrashed 7-0 by Barcelona in September Celtic have only lost one of the resulting 13 matches in all competitions – a 2-0 defeat at home to Gladbach. They have won five of their last six and kept a clean sheet in seven of their last nine competitive matches.

Barcelona haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last five competitive away games, which should give Brendan Rodgers some confidence ahead of Wednesday’s glamour tie in Glasgow. Unfortunately for the home side, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both return for Luis Enrique’s side.

The Spanish giants have scored in all eight of their competitive away matches this season and have scored more than one goal in six of those matches. Keeping Barcelona’s front free at bay is likely to prove too much for Celtic’s defence. These matches have been close in the recent years and this could be decided by one goal.
