• Grayson Allen, one of the preseason favorites for national Player of the Year, had a bad night in a 77-75 loss against No. 8 Kansas on Tuesday. That will likely be bad news for a freshmen-laden Penn State squad when Allen and the rest of his No. 1 Duke teammates meet the Nittany Lions on Saturday in the semifinals of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off tournament in Uncasville, Conn.

• Freshman Lamar Stevens had 19 points and five rebounds to lead the Lions over the Antelopes, while juniors Shep Garner and Payton Banks combined for six 3-pointers and 29 points. Stevens (17.7 points), Garner (15), Banks (12.7) and Tony Carr (14.7, Big Ten freshmen-leading 4.7 assists), and Mike Watkins (11.3, 6.3 rebounds, 4.3 blocks) all average double figures in scoring. Penn State is 0-13 all-time against the No. 1 team and hasn’t played one since 2011.

• Sharpshooting sophomore guard Luke Kennard led the Blue Devils in scoring (22 points on 7-of-10 shooting), assists (five) and rebounds (five) against the Jayhawks. Allen leads the team in scoring at 17.7 points while adding 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while Kennard totals 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Talented freshmen big men Harry Giles and Jayson Tatum, the No.1 and No. 3 freshmen recruits in the country according to ESPN, have not played yet due to injuries and probably won’t play this weekend.

• Duke has made a 3-pointer in 950 consecutive games – the fourth-longest stretch in Division I history.

• No. 22 Rhode Island and No. 25 Cincinnati meet in the other semifinal Saturday.
