Who will WIN this matchup?
North Alabama Lions (7-9)
@ Central Arkansas Bears (6-10)
Current odds:
North Alabama Lions: (-120)
Central Arkansas Bears: (+100)
• The line for this game is North Alabama by 1 point.
• Rounding out a four-game homestand, the Central Arkansas women’s basketball team (6-10, 1-4 ASUN) hosts North Alabama (7-9, 2-2 ASUN) in a game that was rescheduled due to ASUN Covid protocols. Both teams come off of losses on Saturday, giving each team one day of rest in between games.
• The Sugar Bears, currently on a three-game slide, look to get back in the win column against North Alabama. Freshman Randrea Wright notched her seventh game of double-digit scoring on Saturday, also marking back-to-back games of double-digit scoring, putting up 13 against Jacksonville State before leading the team with 15 against Liberty. The Birmingham, Ala., native also has three-straight games of three-plus assists, peaking at five against Lipscomb.
• Conference play has seen several Sugar Bears take their game to the next level. In addition to Wright, who has boosted her stats to 9.2 points per game while leading the team in assists (14) and steals (11) over that span, Lucy Ibeh and Hannah Langhi have also increased their production as the schedule has turned to ASUN opponents. Shooting 52 percent from the field, Ibeh has ramped up her game to average a double-double at 15 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. The junior forward is fourth in the conference in scoring on the year, with a healthy lead in rebounding, still two rebounds per game ahead of second place.
• Langhi, for her part, has scored double-digit points in three of the team’s five conference games, including a season-best 17 at Bellarmine. Defensively, the senior also has the third-most blocks in conference games, with nine rejections to her name. Against Liberty, Langhi became the sixth Division I era player in school history to record 500 career rebounds, doing so with an offensive rebound in the first quarter.
• All-time, Central Arkansas is 5-1 against the Lions, most recently playing in the 2002 Gulf South Conference Tournament under former head coach Ron Marvel. The Sugar Bears took a win in that game by a final score of 87-74 in Tupelo, Miss.
• Across the aisle from Central Arkansas will be the North Alabama Lions. Last time out for the team was a 32-point loss to Stetson on Saturday. With just 17 points in the first half, the deficit proved to be too much to overcome, snapping what was a two-game winning streak for the Lions.
• The road game on Monday marks the first of three-straight away from Florence, Ala., for the Lions, also being the second of four games in eight days for the team.
• As has been the case with numerous ASUN opponents, the scoring on North Alabama is quite balanced, with seven players averaging at least seven points per game for the Lions. Julia Strachan, a grad student from Massachusetts, leads the team with 13.9 points per contest. She also leads the team in three-pointers, with an ASUN-best 56 on the season, knocking them down at 44.4 percent.
• North Alabama has made the second-most three-pointers in the league, hitting 160 so far this season at a league-best 33.6 percent clip.
• Now in her ninth season, Missy Tiber stands as head coach of the Lions. With over 130 wins at North Alabama, she has overseen the school’s transition into the Division I ranks, and has won over 300 games in her coaching career.
