In a season that hasn’t gone to plan, the Anaheim Ducks at least have looked fondly toward matchups with the rival Los Angeles Kings. The Ducks have just eight victories this season but are 2-0 against the Kings, including an offensive-minded 6-5 overtime triumph at home against Los Angeles on Monday.

Rickard Rakell, twice a 30-plus goal scorer, has turned back into an offensive force for the Ducks. He had two goals in the most recent meeting with the Kings to give him five over a six-game points streak. He has 12 points during the run. Rakell’s most recent productive game helped the Ducks overcome a late defensive lapse as Adam Henrique scored the game-winning goal three minutes into the extra period. It gave Anaheim consecutive victories for just the second time this season.

Kevin Shattenkirk, Ben Hutton and Jakob Silfverberg also scored goals for Anaheim as the team’s veterans led the way. Rookie Trevor Zegras did have an assist on Henrique’s game winner, while Max Comtois had three assists in regulation.

The Kings are sending out mixed signals. They have dropped five of their past six games to follow a six-game winning streak but also have 11 points in their past 13 games. Adrian Kempe had a hat trick for the Kings on Monday, including the game-tying goal with 2:32 remaining in regulation, but there wasn’t enough early defense to avoid the defeat. The Kings have gone to overtime in three consecutive games and four of their past five, losing three of them.

Backup goaltender Cal Petersen gave up six goals on 25 shots Monday, and the Kings are expected to turn back to No. 1 goaltender Jonathan Quick, who has won four of his past six starts.

Kings defenseman Drew Doughty appeared to score the game-tying goal with 4:51 remaining, but it was taken away after teammate Dustin Brown made contact with Ducks goaltender John Gibson in the crease. Doughty did have two assists to give him 400 over his 13-year career.

The Ducks lost forward Troy Terry (upper-body injury) and defenseman Josh Manson (lower body) in Monday’s game.
